Privacy Policy

At Cap & Carry, our philosophy is anchored in respecting the golfer. We build simple, private golf tools with complete transparency, zero data-brokering, and clear privacy controls.

1. Our Core Privacy Commitment

We believe your golf scorecards, club carries, and stats belong to you. We do not sell your personal data to third-party data brokers, we do not inject invasive ad trackers into your round, and we provide explicit controls over what data is shared with other golfers.

2. Information We Collect

When you interact with Cap & Carry, we collect only the information necessary to provide golf tracking, handicap scoring, and bag yardages:

  • Account & Profile Data: When registering, you provide your email address, username, golfer display name, optional profile biography, home course, handicap index, and avatar image.
  • Golf Bag & Club Specifications: Club names, categories (drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, putters), brands, lofts, custom notes, and carry/total yardages.
  • Round & Scorecard Records: Holes played, raw strokes, putts, fairways in regulation (FIR), greens in regulation (GIR), penalties, sand saves, weather conditions, round partner attestations, and personal hole notes.
  • On-Course GPS & Geolocation: Latitude, longitude, altitude, and device heading when actively utilizing GPS course navigation or shot tracking during a golf round.

3. GPS Location & Permissions

Cap & Carry accesses your device’s GPS sensors exclusively to calculate distances to the green (front, center, back), evaluate hazards, and measure shot distances on the course.

Location Usage Safeguards:

  • We only query GPS when you explicitly grant location permission and have an active round open.
  • We never track background location when you exit the course or close the application.
  • GPS coordinates are cached locally on your device for fast offline responsiveness when cellular reception drops.

4. Golfer Granular Privacy Controls

You maintain complete control over the visibility of your golf records through the Privacy & Data Ownership settings in your golfer profile:

Public vs. Private Profile

Toggle whether your player profile appears in the community directory and member search.

Bag & Club Visibility

Choose whether fellow golfers can view your equipment specifications and yardage profiles.

Round Privacy Default

Set individual or default round visibility to Public, Friends Only, or Private/Confidential.

Performance & Yardages

Conceal proprietary club carry metrics while retaining access to your own historical charts.

5. Data Security & Storage

Your data is stored using enterprise-grade infrastructure provided by Supabase (PostgreSQL) with strict Row-Level Security (RLS) enforcement at the database layer. All data transmission between your mobile browser and our servers is secured through modern Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.3 / HTTPS).

6. Offline Storage & Progressive Web App (PWA) Cache

Cap & Carry operates as a Progressive Web App. To provide offline round resilience when cell service is spotty on remote courses, we utilize browser IndexedDB and LocalStorage to save active scorecards, club yardages, and pending sync queues. This data is housed locally within your browser sandbox.

7. Your Rights, Data Export & Deletion

Under applicable privacy regulations (including GDPR and CCPA), you have the right to inspect, update, export, or delete your account and associated scorecards directly through your golfer profile and data settings.
