How to Master Cap & Carry
From configuring your Bag DNA and setting up live GPS rangefinders to real-time multiplayer scoring with golf buddies—explore the complete walkthrough of every subsystem.
Chapter 1: Bag DNA & Club Yardages
Your golf bag is the foundation of Cap & Carry. When your bag is set, the on-course GPS Rangefinder and Smart Caddie engine know exactly which club you should hit for any distance.
Visit My Bag to seed a standard 14-club set (Driver through Putter) in a single tap.
Dial in your personal carry distances for each club (e.g. 7-Iron: 165y, 3-Wood: 230y) so the Smart Caddie recommendations match your true swing.
As you measure shots on the course, your club cards compute your calculated true average yardage over time.
Chapter 2: Handicap System & WHS-Style Index
Cap & Carry calculates a WHS-style index for your records. It does not post official scores to a national handicap body. You can view your index and scoring differentials in the Handicap Portal:
Calculates your WHS-style index automatically using standard course ratings and slope differentials:
Maintains your rolling 20 rounds with ★ Counted in Index badges highlighting your best 8 differentials.
If you hold an active membership through your golf club or state association, toggle to Manual mode to lock your number.
Cap & Carry computes on-course handicap strokes during rounds without overwriting your number.
Calculates the exact differential required on your next round to displace your 8th counting score and lower your index.
An official-style credential card displaying your verified golfer identity, index, Low H.I. (365d), and revision timestamp for away pro shops.
Instant tee-by-tee stroke lookup: calculates your exact playing handicap for any slope and rating before teeing off.
Chapter 3: Golf Buddies & Live Round Tracking
Connect with regular playing partners through the Buddies Hub. Track mutual round history and follow friends live as they play:
When a confirmed buddy starts a round, an alert appears on your clubhouse dashboard and Buddies page showing their current hole, live score relative to par, and course name.
Tap “Spectate” to open their active digital scorecard in real time with zero latency.
Every buddy card automatically logs your mutual history: total rounds played together, date of your last shared match, and the host course.
Find new playing partners anytime in the Golfer Directory.
When starting a round, select any buddy from your roster. They receive an immediate lock-screen push notification and header banner to join your live group scorecard.
Chapter 4: Round History & Career Bests
Your entire playing history is preserved in Round History. Review full scorecards, track milestone personal bests, and share rounds:
Filter by All Rounds, 18 Holes, or 9 Holes. Switch between Newest First and Lowest Score (Best First) to inspect your record performances.
Tap the Share button on any round card to copy an instant direct link to your clipboard. Anyone with the link can view your complete hole-by-hole card and differentials.
Chapter 5: Finding Courses & Starting a Round
Search thousands of global golf courses powered by the OpenGolf API and OpenStreetMap. View total par, tee options, slope, and course ratings.
Click the Star icon next to any course in Play to pin it to your quick-launch favorites for instant 1-tap setup next weekend.
Every round allows you to choose your desired visibility before teeing off:
Chapter 6: On the Course (GPS Rangefinder & Smart Caddie)
The on-course interface is streamlined into three essential sections: Top Hole Header, Smart Caddie with vector hole map, and the Digital Scorecard.
Live distances to the Front, Center / Pin, and Back of each green with live GPS confidence badge.
Cross-references your live green yardage with your configured Bag DNA to suggest the exact club for your approach.
Dynamic fairway vector display (Straight Fairway or Doglegs) with tap-to-target aiming yardages and bunker / hazard markers.
- Tap Hit Shot & Walk right after striking the ball.
- Walk to your ball—watch the live yardage tick up in real time.
- Select the club used and tap Save Shot to calibrate your true bag averages.
Chapter 7: Collaborative Multiplayer Scorecard
No more shouting across the fairway asking what everyone got. Cap & Carry features real-time multiplayer scorecard synchronization:
When any player enters their score on Hole 7, it dispatches instantly to every participant's phone via Supabase Realtime.
Full scorecard displays strokes, handicap strokes applied per hole, cumulative played-holes par math, and score-to-par standings.
When finishing the round, review your match summary and confirm whether to post to Public Feed, Buddy Feed, or Private.
Chapter 8: Clubhouse & Data Ownership
The Clubhouse Feed gives you two distinct windows into golf match activity:
Shows public scorecards from golfers across all clubs. See how other golfers are playing Pinehurst, Pebble Beach, or your local course.
A focused feed dedicated to your confirmed golf buddies and yourself. See when buddies finish rounds and how their differentials compare.
